You should not need extra s/w.

I only needed a single and got this from ebay for just over £10, works
with no problems.

Make sure you get the right internal interface, IDE or SATA, to match
the discs you have.

It should not, provided the PC is not set to boot off USB in which
case it might try and boot from it.  In that case if you cannot work
out how to make the disc not bootable then I am sure someone here will
know how.  If you don't need the data on the disc then just re-format.
