Hi Bob,

This is a bit of a guess, but am I right in thinking the card you have 
is a Geforce 4 Ti 4400?

If so, according to the Nvidia site [1] it requires the 96.43.xx driver 
which if I'm right is known as nvidia-glx-96 in Ubuntu.

You should be able to find it in Synaptic or from a terminal run ...

sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-96
