[ubuntu-uk] wacom bamboo

I am beginning to feel that I am going round in ever decreasing circles
and I am getting worried that I might disappear. I have 2 desktop
machines both running Ubuntu 9.04 one of which is relatively new and the
other which has been running Ubuntu from the day Ubuntu started.
xorg.conf on the old machine has lots of stuff in it including some
references to Wacom which are commented out. On the new machine there
are very few entries in xorg.conf and no reference at all to Wacom. On
neither machine does the circular pad work.

I must be missing something which will be perfectly obvious to you
knowledgeable ones and I would welcome advice on how to proceed.
