There will be a reason, we just don't know with the detail you've
provided what that reason is yet.

Did they install from the repo or from sun.com, did they download the
deb directly or use a repo, did they use dpkg/gdebi/apt/synaptic to
install?

Do you have a dpkg.log from /var/log?
