Good news!

After a bit of googling I discovered "WinFF" which is a cross platform 
'frontend' to ffmpeg. It looks pretty easy to use, and more importantly for 
you, it's a graphical application :)

Download at the above site and install with gdebi (it will then pull in 
ffmpeg from the repository.
