Hi folks,
I'm not sure how many of you are aware but this week it's supposed to be
Internet Safety Week. Anyway, I was asked to do an interview for work
(I work in a radio station) with regards to Internet Safety and what as
a dad of three girls I think about it.
I explained that my kids have a PC but they don't have internet access
(actually they're happy with TuxPaint and haven't asked for internet
access yet, they're 7, 5 and 21 months). Before I did the interview I
looked around to see if I could find a Linux Live CD which I could
mention which has Dansguardian built in. Unfortunately the only thing I
found was Ubuntu Christian Edition which didn't specifically say if it
was a Live CD or not and I had limited time to download it to see.
In the end I found a cross platform (Windows, Mac, Linux) add-on for
Firefox called Glubble (www.glubble.com) which blocks access to sites
which aren't on the accepted list. It looks pretty good (albeit not a
replacement to me watching what my kids are doing online) but it's not
Open Source. It does however say that it requires Firefox, so hopefully
that'll get some more Firefox converts :-)
So, I was wondering, does anyone know of a Live CD which has just got
Firefox and Dansguardian built in (maybe with a script to update it),
maybe with the option of saving Favourites to an online service or USB
pen drive.
It's a shame that I didn't have one to hand otherwise I would have
publicised it on air.
I'm sure I read an article about one a while back but I can't find it now.
I just thought I'd ask before I attempt to hack one together using
Reconstructor.
Rob
