But doesn't the Humax have a USB port which mounts like an external 
harddrive?

I'm pretty sure I read a while back of people plugging the Linksys NSLU 
slug NAS devices into Humax boxes, which with a big of fiddling, 
effectively put the recorded contents of the Humax onto a samba share on 
your network....
