Hi Chris,

mdadm has it's own monitoring service, and can optionally do a decent
monthly check.  To enable it run:

$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure mdadm

Ensure you had a 'sendmail' equivalent such as postfix or
exim4-daemon-light installed.
