The problem was that my gfx card was doing some wierd scaling. The
resolution on the screen was 1280x768, but my desktop was at 800x600 and
being scaled by my card to the output resolution. I looked all through
xorg.conf and there was nothing about scaling, virtual resolutions or
metamodes so I don't have a clue what was going on, I guess it's just some
wierd nvidia thing. Under windows DVI -> HDMI cable worked fine. I'm just
using standard DVI -> VGA cable atm which works fine under Ubuntu and I
probably wouldnt be able to tell the difference anyway.
