I am sure you are correct when one is trying to dual boot on one drive,
but I am not trying to do that. All I am trying to do is to have 2
workable hard drives in one machine, one of which will have Ubuntu and
the other Windows XP. There is nothing clever in that other that
organising the facility to be able to boot from which ever one is
required.

I have thought of that and maybe that is one way out of the dilemma. I
am not sure if it is worth it, however, as I only expect to use windows
no more than once per week.
