I don't know if the software itself is open-source, but I know that CMED
Technology in Sussex use Ubunut/Gnu/Python for a lot of their stuff -
www.cmedresearch.com - also, try searching Sourceforge.net for medical,
clinical or other related keywords and see what turns up.
I was a student nurse for a year and a half (also a long story!) and I
kept trying to write a patient administration system that would
auto-triage based on keywords entered by reception on booking in. The
main problem with the system was that I was meant to be writing an essay
on research techniques. Needless to say I went back into IT - I miss
the sense of humour though! :)
