You could try it!

You need to run the gconf-editor utility. The easiest way is to hit
Alt-F2 which brings up the 'Run Application' dialgue box. Enter
gconf-editor and click run. Teh configuration editor should appear.

In the left panel you should see the work 'apps' with a small triangle
to its left. Click on the triangle to open up what is under 'apps'.

Scroll down until you find the 'nautilus' entry and click on its
triangle to open it up.

Click on 'preferences'.

In the top right panel you should see an entry 'click policy' and it
value will be 'double'. Right click on the click_policy line and select
Edit Key from the menu that pops up.

In the dialogue box that comes up change the value 'double' to 'single'
(no quotes). and click on OK.

Close the configuration editor and you are done.

Note all the clicks above are *single* clicks.

Remember that everything will be a single click from now on (there may
be some exceptions).
