Hello, Andrew.
It was the community version of Feisty for PPC that I couldn't boot.
I've burnt another CD and this one works OK, so it must have been the
CD. I've replaced the Dapper I installed previously with Feisty now.

I'm embarrased to say that I now use Skype chat (as "ajtravis") because
many of the people I talk to are on Skype. I did use IRC ChatZilla until
I switched to FireFox (tried SeaMonkey, for a while but decided to use
FireFox). I'm dithering about Thunderbird now Mozilla are 'demoting' it
to a community version in a similar way to SeaMonkey...

Seems OK, but PPC Java was a problem until I read about "medibuntu"!

I've got to say that the iMac is quite slow in comparison to my old
Athlon 2400+ desktop. However, it has got a very nice display :-)
I tried using my iMac as a 'thin' client, with the SSHVnc Java applet:
http://freshmeat.net/projects/sshvnc/?branch_id=40526
Executing Java was quite slow on the iMac G4 PPC, but I got a better
response using "xtightvncviewer" instead, so it wasn't my Broadband
connection that was limiting the speed of VNC display updates...
I've been using the system monitor to see how busy my iMac was doing
various tasks. It's quite good for an 'old' computer, and lots better
under Ubuntu than it was under the version of MacOSX it had on it!
Tony.
