First off, the dates are:
Tuesday 2005-10-05 - Wednesday 2005-10-06
(With setup being the afternoon before). It's amazing to think that it'll
be one year since I (failed) to get special pre-release Warty CDs burned in
time for this event---how much things have moved on in 12 months!
Here in Britain, Canonical employs a fairly large percentage of the Debian
Developers; one of the problems I had last year with the Debian stand is
that everyone was busily working with Mark and couldn't get time off---even
unpaid leave. I'm *hopeful* that situation won't occur again, or perhaps
not to such a large extent...
Debian ends up in the '.Org' section of non-profits, so I it might be worth
enquiring where they are expecting Ubuntu (although I suspect the Exhibition
organisers are probably hoping they can flog some premium stand-space... :-).
Given the 'weight' of Mark speaking, it may even be possible to negotiate
something of both---but the .Org space is likely a better place to be, it's
where the interesting people all end up---and is normally buzzing even if
it's tucked away downstairs.
This brings me to the second point; we can hopefully get the Ubuntu
community along, but beyond that there's a large overlap between the
Ubunties and Debianites. Last year at the Expo we had two mega-stands:
Debian/Emdebian/Linux-ARM cabal and a GNOME/KDE/Xorg/FreeDesktop.org one.
It would be handy to at least have the Ubuntu/Debian stands adjacent. Also
don't know what Jonathan wants to do about Kubuntu... jr: any ideas?
Beyond that:
Lots CDs (though we need to check the dates regarding Breezy availability)
T-shirts/swag/banners etc
How interested are people in getting Debian-UK (aka Sledge) to sort out
Ubuntu T-shirts for general sale? This would provide something for the
fanboys to show their devotion with.
For the last few years, Debian has had the biggest stand (measuring by the
constant crowd in front of it); ...this year I can quite believe it might
have that crown stolen ;-)
