[ubuntu-studio-users] wifi suddenly stopped working

I have a dell latitude e6430s running studio 16.04.1 the wifi suddenly quit
working. on the network drop down menu connect wifi is unchecked. the name
of the router is gone. rechecking wifi doesn't work, and rebooting doesn't
help. it doesn't recognize any wifi device now. I ran the command, sudo
lshw -class network in terminal and it says the network is disabled. I
tried booting to the live dvd with the same result.
