You can edit two xorg.conf, one with the proprietary driver, another
with any other driver and switch them by a script copied to /etc/rcS.d,
see attachment. There're patches available to build the proprietary
driver with the kernel-rt, but I dunno where you can get those. Vanilla
kernel 2.6.39 shouldn't need a RT patch anymore.

As an example I attached my xorg.conf for Natty, but you need to figure
out what settings are needed for your monitor.
