Daryl, Mike & Ralph:
Thanks Daryl, your experience adds what I learned after having a total
reversal today. I called in to Acer presuming my laptop is defective. Reason
I say your experience is very valid, is this. The acer tech walked me
through a trip the system default mechanism. As I see it, when you removed
the battery, knowingly or unknowingly you too had forced your Aspire into
default.

To any and all, if your Aspire 5517 model's mouse dies, boot up once more
pressing the F2 till it allows you to spring the default steps. Then shut
down and boot up. Then click the button to the left of the power on button.
Wah la,,, if there is no actual defect, the mouse on your touch pad will
reactivate promptly. So Daryl, what I make of you removing the battery is
this. Your method breaks the jammed circuit by removing the "weak battery"
and booting up without the battery and running solely with the power cord.

Mike, would not my situation and the situation Daryl has explain both amount
to bringing the OS into a default start up? I believe so and sure was glad I
do not have to do without my laptop.
