How much money are you willing to spend for the sound card ;)? Do you
wish to have MIDI with less jitter too?
I've got two Envy24 based TerraTec EWX 24/96 PCI cards.
1. Less good sound quality regarding to muddy bass, but still ok and it
costs around 30,-€ to get such a card at Ebay.
2. Envy24 cards are supported by Linux, e.g. Envy24control, the mixer
for this card, is still under progress, today called Mudita, but
Envy24control.
3. PCI = less MIDI jitter and PCI = no firewire or USB issues.
4. Supportable latency.
5. To sync two cards might be a little bit trick, I never tried to do
it, but it's possible two set up two cards as one virtual card and IIRC
there's a way to sync 2 cards without such a tweak, by using a little
program ... sorry, no time to search for both kludges right now.
6. If you have less money an Envy24 based PCI card is a good choice for
Linux, if you do have much money, you better get a better card, but I
don't know which good, resp. 'professional' cards are supported by
Linux.
2 Cents,
Ralf
