The current stable release of 64Studio is based on Debian. This is in
fact what I am running on my own studio box as it is stable and reliable
on my AMD 4400+ X2 (939). Right now version 3 is in beta and it is
based on Ubuntu. Moving forward that project will likely be based on a
Ubuntu LTS and should be pretty stable and a little more up to date than
if it were based on Debian. The only catch with this approach is that
support for the latest hardware sometimes lags.
For my day job as a consultant I need a more up to date platform, for
which Ubuntu fits the bill. I have added Ubuntu Studio stuff to my
laptop with a custom kernel which works well for me. I do pay close
attention to the hardware when purchasing which helps a lot as well.
