jack and sound restarting

I restarted alsa with the command
sudo /etc/init.d/alsa-utils restart
Terminal said ALSA started again fine. I then opened qjackctl and tried
running it again. In short, it said that the device I was using was
still being used by another program and couldn't start. Here's the long
version:
10:19:56.948 Patchbay activated.

I can verify alsa is not the problem because I then started qjackctl
with alsa, with another sounddevice and it worked. So somehow I need to
close hw:0,0 completely and restart it before I can use it after
crashing.. Any ideas on how to do this?
Thank you so far!
