Installation woes

Hi everyone,

I'm a first-time user of Ubuntu Studio, and installed Hardy Heron (8.04 LTS)
some time ago.  Having experienced problems with Rosegarden, which I
installed from the Add/Remove dialog box in Ubuntu, I was advised to install
Ubuntu Studio.  So I downloaded the Intel DVD ISO image, burnt it to DVD,
and booted from it.

Everything went well until after the software package selection stage (I
selected all five options), when the Ubuntu installer main menu appeared.
The point at which things started to go wrong was when this dialog box
appeared: "INSTALLATION STEP FAILED.  An installation step failed.  You can
try to run the failing item again from the menu, or skip it and choose
something else.  The failing step is:  Select and install software".  And
when I select "Continue", it takes me to the main menu.  What's going on
here!?  I try to select something after that step, but all steps after that
one also fail.
