dpkg crashes GNOME on UbuntuStudio 9.04

Dear all,


  I just installed UStudio 9.04.  Looks great. However, GNOME crashed at
somepoint while I had run a 'apt-get install openoffice.org'.  A power
cycle was required.

When I rebooted and ran the apt-get again I was informed of this:

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a'
to correct the problem.

I ran this, but each I do GNOME hangs - I cannot even use Ctr-Alt-1 to get
to a console.  The only option is a hard reboot.

Any ideas?
