Yes both.  My AM2 is currently a file server in the basement, and it
locks up under heavy load a couple of times a month.

At the moment I am a big fan of Intel.  On my laptop (still 8.10) I use
an RT kernel for day to day stuff, including vmware workstation.  I
hammer this thing daily and it is rock solid.  I cannot say the same for
my previous laptop which was an AM2 based Turion.  It is a shame since
the previous generation of AMD CPUs/motherboards was so awesome (this is
what my current recording rig is based around).

OTH, I am a fan of the ATI/AMD video cards.  The newer cards are
supported by a properly open sourced driver (radeonhd).
