Please, do try to help us to help you. I'm pretty sure everyone around
actually realizes, that since you're using UbuntuStudio, which hasn't been
released on any other platforms outside Linux, you are using Linux.
For example, on my machine the above command gives the following output:
jaska at bowmore:~$ uname -a
Linux bowmore 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Sun Oct 14 21:45:15 GMT 2007 x86_64
GNU/Linux
Can you spot the difference?

I sincerely don't understand what the earlier poster had in mind, there's no
file in /etc with the name groups. What I'm guessing is, are you a member of
group "audio", which you can tell by typing the command:
$ groups
For me it gives:
jaska at bowmore:/$ groups
jaska adm dialout cdrom floppy audio dip video plugdev scanner fuse lpadmin
netdev powerdev admin
