updating, upgrading Feisty, Gutsy

Is it more advisable to do a clean install then? I have Ubuntu Feisty
Fawn on the same drive. It is pretty stable and I have read a lot of
horror story about updating that on the forums too. 
My Studio is still very basic and I would not mind re-installing.
I am not an expert and I am getting a bit confused about this Gutsy
issue. Is Gutsy ready at all yet? Maybe it is worth while to wait for
the nest edition?
Any advice would be helpful.
