Problem Installing

Sorry for this beginner question...

I installed Ubuntu Studio inside VMWare, under Windows Vista. It worked fine until I tried to make some partition changes and had to reinstall Windows from the backup image, due to the complete mess I`ve done.

So I decided to purchase an external HD, and reinstall UBST there.
Now doing all the partition work with care, everything worked fine, I managed starting UBST installation.

After that, asked by the system to reboot, GRUB working OK, the system returned an error (in a text screen) saying it was not possible to load X. I then open the X return message and got something like this:
  "X Window System Version 7.2.0
  Release Date: 22 jan 2007
  X Protocol Versino 11, Revision 0, Release 7.2
  Build Operating System: Linux Ubuntu
Current Operationg System: Linux zev-mob 2.6.20-15-low latency #2 SMP
  ...
  Fatal server error:
  Caught signal 11. Server Aborting"

After that, the system open terminal mode and accepted my login normally. But refused connections to the graphical mode.

  What could have been wrong?
  thanks in advance,

  Zevang

  P.S. Configs are:
Notebook Acer Core Duo 1.6 (not Core Duo 2)
  1GB mem
main HD 160 GB (two NTFS partitions)
ext USB HD 120 GB (one main ext3 partition+swap, one NTFS partition)
