Hi All,
Here is my attempt at collating possible freedesktop categories and
debtags for the Graphics workflow. You may guess I do not know so much
about graphics. For debtags, we will probably need to request a new
facet and tags because none appear to exist yet. It is also difficult
to do this category without overlapping with the
video/photography/publishing categories. According to wikipedia, a
graphics designer gets into all sorts of stuff these days!
Proposed Freedesktop categories - additional categories (main
categories) description:
2DGraphics (Graphics) - 2D based graphical application
VectorGraphics (Graphics) - Application for viewing, creating, or
processing vector graphics
RasterGraphics (Graphics) - Application for viewing, creating, or
processing raster (bitmap) graphics
3DGraphics (Graphics) - Application or viewing, creating, or
processing 3-D graphics
Viewer (Graphics) - Tool to view e.g. a graphic or pdf file
Possible Freedesktop categories I am not sure about:
Scanning (Graphics) - Tool to scan a file/text
OCR (Graphics) - Optical Character recognition application
Chart (Office) - Chart application
Flowchart (Office) - A flowchart application
Presentation (Office) - Presentation software
WebDevelopment (Development) - A tool for web developers
Art (Education or Science) - Software to teach arts
ImageProcessing (Education or Science) - Image Processing Software
Maps (Education or Science or Utility) - Software for viewing maps,
navigation, mapping, GPS
Debtags (need to ask for a new Graphics facet):
sketch, image, paint, symbol, icon, 3Dmodel, illustrate, colour, logo,
bitmap, vector, raster, graphic
Other words I pulled from wikipedia but didn't take forward as tags (in
case someone thinks we should - or it generates another idea of what a
graphic designer might need):
Flyer, resize, trim, web, website, design, brand, signs, signage,
mock-up, gui, interface, presentation, poster, billboard, broadcast,
character generator, background, cartoon, layout, animation, motion,
ideas, messages, business card, stationery, packaging, advertising,
promotions, credits (film), scenery, book/magazine/CD/DVD cover,
T-shirts, typography, glyphs, chart
All thoughts and ideas are welcome - especially if you do graphics
design! I will incorporate any comments when I drop this onto the wiki.
Regards,
Ross
