evil? really?
when i started using ubuntu, i used the software updater.. i dont anymore,
and havent for a while. i educated myself in the more manual way that you
are suggesting by reading and asking questions. nothing about ubuntu or
ubuntustudio or xubuntu prevents any user from learning this, nor suggests
that they dont learn it, nor implies or suggests that one should not learn.
anyone is always free to get constructively involved in the creation of
ubuntu, ubuntustudio and/or xubuntu. ubuntu takes debian and customizes it,
and releases a distro. you are welcome to do that, or take ubuntu and
"fork" it.. we ship JACK and pulse because users need both. i personally
dont need pulse, and choose not to use it when im using JACK, but many
users of ubuntustudio dont use or need to use JACK, or want to have flash
audio routed through JACK. the validity of this workflow is not being
commented on here by me, just that it is something that the team chooses to
support, since many users have asked for that support.. such as, im sure
many users want a way to update packages without opening a command line..
its not "evil" to make a distro that you dont like, Ralph.. i invite you to
join our very small development team in #ubuntustudio-devel on freenode,
and constructively voice your suggestions, and work with them to make
ubuntustudio what you think it needs to be.. thanks!
