Ubuntu Studio Oneiric Original Artist or Source Files?

C.F.,
Is this what you are looking for?
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuStudio/Artwork/OfficialOneiric
If so the artist is Izo: http://www.design-by-izo.com/
I liked where he was going with those first several images, but had wanted
the background texturing to look more like stone-like (not literally stone)
with the CoF "etched into the stone" and located in the bottom right. The
effect of the CoF "etched into stone" would be to infer that the CoF was
etched long ago and slightly faded or less crisp around the corners so that
the CoF is not overbearing or dominating the background image (which for
production computers should not control or demand attention IMO), yet be
subtly conspicuous if it were absent. Less text version: you don't really
notice it, but you would if it wasn't there.
Anyways, hope this helps.
