I can't say no, but I have to warn. Most of the times I'm using Ubuntu
Studio Precise and Arch. On Arch I've got issues using Xfce + Gnome
apps, because background and font colors sometimes are (nearly) equal.
For Ubuntu Studio still everything is ok, I anyway think about switching
to LXDE.

Perhaps a GNOME2 successor EXDE (seems to be dead) and Mate (tons of
hits, seems to be alive) might be worse a try too.
