There's less traffic on the Xubuntu users mailing list.

I use file browsers simply for changing directories by mouse click and
to display thumbnails and sometimes to delete files. If I need more, I
open a terminal.
In the past I used KDE3 + Konqueror. It was possible to split Konqueror
windows as often as needed and to add actions to the right-click, with
abilities of an application. Perhaps Dolphin and Konqueror still have
super cow powers.
Thunar sometimes is annoying and at the moment I'm using Nautilus with
12.10, but I always could use Thunar and IIRC for 12.04 I set the
default to Thunar.
IMO a clean Xfce is better than to mix it with the GNOME or any other
alien file browser.
I'm undecided, perhaps I switch to LXDE or another DE/WM. Btw. some
issues with Qtractor can be avoided by forcing it to choose another
theme. To give more information about this issue I need to search the
LAU archive, but "The server at lists.linuxaudio.org is taking too long
to respond" at the moment. However, people who use a lot of Rui's Qt
applications QjackCtl, QSynth etc., might be more comfortable with KDE,
I suspect Rui still is a openSUSE + KDE user, at least he was in the
past.
