Thank you. It is good to have a better understanding of how pulse works. I
think for recording, jack seems to work better. It does require a better
understanding of the underlying sound bits than pulse does. Perhaps I
should have said for picky recording where one wants full control. For
example On my box, mic boost is most objectionable at the 20db setting.
Sound is better with boost set to 30 and capture set lower to compensate
than with boost set to 20 and capture higher. Boost 10 is quieter yet and
boost 0 is quietest.

On another note since testing audacity with jack, my internal mic seems to
work. Not sure why... And I remember why I didn't like it. There are loud
snaps and cackles every few seconds even though nothing is touching the
computer. I think that is why I got the headset with a mic in the first
place. This is a hardware problem.
