Anyone will do; what I'm after is good maintainability, and a version in the
official repositories. Not interested in ultimate performance, I can work on my
stuff with some latency.

Whatever is provided by default by the distribution.

Testing, packaging, Ubuntu and Ubuntu Studio relation, learning to generally
tweak kernels...
