Jack2 would be nice; what would be nicer would be the new firewire
stack but I am realizing that is a huge undertaking. I have started to
spec out the dependencies [1] that would allow us to eventually get
rid of having to allow users to enable promiscuous raw1394
permissions.

Some of the rather important libs have either not been ported to
firewire-core (such as ffmpeg's libavdevice) or are compile time
switched between the two backends (libdc1394). Libraw1394's 2.0
release supports auto loading of the correct backend.

I think we should look into how fedora is handeling these transitions,
as iirc, they have been shipping the new firewire backend in their
kernels for quite some time.

Thanks,

Andrew.
