(a) ipython: required for the corresponding "interactive python shell" gourmet plugin (which is part of the upstream code and can be activated through the Plugins menu item). As comparable requirements (like python-gtkspell for the spell check plugin, or python-beautifulsoup for the web page import plugin) have so far been part of Recommends, too, I added ipython to that section instead of using Suggests.
(b) I emailed a modified version of gourmet.diff -- with only the changes to Debian's 0.16.1-1 -- to the maintainer of the Debian package right after filing this bug report, but I felt I shouldn't wait for him to react in order not to waste too much time after trusty's FF.

So I'm obviously okay with moving ipython to Suggests, and I'm all for
keeping this synced with Debian, but as I can't predict how long it's
going to take them to update, I'd rather make sure 0.17.0 is in trusty
anyway.

Title:
  [FFe] Please update gourmet to 0.17.0

Status in “gourmet” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I've recently released upstream gourmet 0.17.0. I've also updated the
  Ubuntu package from 0.16.1 (attaching a diff for the debian/
  directory)

  @ubuntu-release: Please grant an FFe.
  @ubuntu-sponsors: Please upload to trusty.

  Rationale:
  This is mostly a bugfix release wrt 0.16.1 and fixes a large number of bugs reported for 0.16.1 and earlier versions.
  (The incremented minor version number is mostly for indicating that this includes a Windows version, where there hasn't been one long before.)

  Release notes are at
  https://github.com/thinkle/gourmet/releases/tag/0.17.0
