Sounds great that you got it all working, you shouldn't really need an 
8GB swap file, and usually the easiest way to partition is to just use 
the "Split disk in half" option with the slider thingy and it handles 
all of that for you

You can set grub to boot Windows instead of Ubuntu by default and/or 
increase the timeout.
