[Ubuntu-SG] My ubuntu crashed out on me, pls help.

Its simpler actually. Assuming you have the live disk(of any version), boot
into the live disk, make sure the disk you need to check is unmounted and
run fsck from there.Thats one of the advantages with the livecd based
installation ;p.

Its been a while since i did it, and i don't rememeber if the livedisk works
as 'root' or you need to use sudo but

sudo fdisk -l should list the disk partitions on the system
sudo umount /dev/sdxx should unmount it.
sudo fsck /dev/sdxx should check it.
