long pause during boot

Hi all,

During boot of an ubuntu alternate 8.04 I sometimes have a long
duration of output pause.

After the two lines:

Begin: Running /scripts/local-premount ...
Begin: Waiting for resume device... ...

It sometimes take 5-10 seconds before I see the "Done." and the boot
process continues.

I wanted to ask whether this is normal or is there a problem ?
