Andrew, it's been a while since this issue was reported.  Are you still
experiencing this problem?  Have you tried the latest version of Ubuntu
(Intrepid)?

Are you running ssh-add when log (in a terminal) or ssh-askpass (the
graphical version).  A related bug report with the gnome-ssh-askpass
(which I believe is different than ssh-askpass) seems to report a
similiar issue in Ubuntu 8.04, but I am seeking details to confirm.
