The revert commit, c6f3472, LGTM since it is simply undoing a change dbungert added in June.

For the principle change, 84e5992, please provide a bug # or equivalent reference with an explanation to document the rationale for the change.  I am gathering this is part of a larger effort to optimize installation via ZFS, but the original commit lacks an explanation and cursory googling is just providing generic ZFS on Linux docs.
