Hello Philip,

Flash-kernel is not specific to non-EFI images. On EFI systems it will copy the relevant kernel device-tree to a location where GRUB will pick it up via the devicetree command. In the case of secure boot this does not apply as the devicetree command is disabled.

You will not need the device-tree coming with the kernel when running under KVM/QEMU on on systems that provide ACPI tables or a compatible device-tree. So I am fine with removing it from cloud specific images.

Flash-kernel should not be generally removed from non-raspi arm64 and armhf preinstalled server images. You will need it for installing our preinstalled arm64 server images on other embedded platforms. Here is an example:
