I just built Multipass in the supplied bionic buildd image, and then Snapcraft using the Multipass from the previous try. So far so good :)

Yeah, size is still my biggest concern at the moment.

As for the kernel… I spoke to Brad about the `-virtual` variant, and he basically waved his hand saying "This is not the kernel you're looking for" (maybe not in so many words).

Getting away from initramfs would give us faster boots, but that's not really an issue for these images, the build time itself will be factors longer than the boot delay due to initramfs.
