Hi Trevor

First thimgs first you emailed the Quality list. Rather move your
discussion to the Community list.

Secondly the best way to get into Ubuntu is just to try it. Download it and
write a bootable usb. This allows you to try Ubuntu without installing it.

Thirdly thw Ubuntu site itself has a list of default programmes that
replace their Windows counterparts.

Try these sites for more help:
Q and A site: askubuntu.com
Community site for your local community try community.ubuntu.com
New site that gives lots of helpful tips apps etc www.omgubuntu.co.uk

At the community site you'll learn the most and can use that as a spring
board.

Remember Ubuntu is best when you decide to learn and empower yourself. So
no problem is insurmountable.

Have fun
