Hi Berne,
Are you from Cavite too?
I too am a gratis (IT) consultant for a private school here in Cavite. I also tried to convince the school admin to switch to ubuntu since last year and I think we have the same problem... (actually, they tried and installed ubuntu for two months but got back to Window$
The schools can't adapt Ubuntu as of now for the following reasons:
1. The Instructors are very reluctant to the idea because they think they will have a hard time learning the new operating system...
2. The School Administrators think that the money they spent for their licensed operating system would be a waste if they switch to ubuntu.
3. Lack of textbooks. As of now, as far as I know, no local publisher published any textbook for Ubuntu or even for Linux in general. Of course we could always download free ebooks on ubuntu from the internet but....
4. Finally, The school makes profit through textbooks, huge amount of percentage for the school will be lost if they just let the students download all the materials from the net. Of course the school administrators didn't tell me that. :D But I know for a fact that they do profit from it.
Maybe we could meetup and discuss or make plans on how to convince the schools make the big switch.
Cheers!

The box said 'You need Windows Vista or better' ..... so I installed Ubuntu.

Subject: [Ubuntu-PH] Ubuntu integrated to curriculum?
Good day!
I am a gratis consultant for a small primary and secondary school in
Cavite, and currently have been advising the school administration to
adopt Ubuntu as the standard operating system for their school computer
laboratory, and primary OS in computer instructions, for the coming
school year 2009-2010. The only glitch to this advice, so far, is the
availability of literature or instructional manual on Ubuntu for the
different grade/year levels. I hear from the grapevine that there are
allied organizations or individuals supposedly undertaking to
incorporate Ubuntu instructions into the Philippine school curriculum. I
hope someone can help me hook up to the appropriate resource.
Thank you very much for your kind assistance.
Berne
