That sounds pretty good, I didn't know something like Vinux existed, I know 
there's a Speakup kernel and that slackware linux (my distribution of choice) 
ships with it, however as far as I know it sends the outputs to a hardware 
speech synthesizer (rather than synthesizing them itself), besides that you 
will also need a braille display, and according to google shop those are 
expensive... 5k for 44 cell models (84 cell around 10k).

For sure it is a interesting project, but everything seems to fall down to 
money (for hardware), sounds like the job for an NGO, also I'm not sure if any 
other school, besides IPHE, takes visually impaired children. Maybe there will 
be more opportunities with private schools.

The software part (what I like), seems to be complete, and even if new 
features or adaptations are needed without the hardware (to test them) it'll 
be almost impossible :(
