Excuse me for writing English.  Most of my computers have both Ubuntu and Windows XP installed.  Installing Ubuntu on a machine with Windows XP is a normal procedure with the Ubuntu installation disks.  It is also possible to use Windows applications in virtual machines in Ubuntu with programs such as Wine and VirtualBox, which means you do not have to reboot the computer to switch between operating systems.  It is much easier to become familiar with Ubuntu when you have a local group to share experiences and ideas.  Unfortunately, I am in Panama, not Los Santos.  Eivar can be very helpful with advice about how to set up a local group.
