[ubuntu-nz] 11.04 freezes when playing dvd

im useing 11.04   kernal 2.6.38-9
codecs   not sure but have g streamer  and ffmpeg  i use vlc mainly as a
media player also boxee media center
all was well for ages the only change has been updates and adding a SATA
hard drive
