Hi Steve,
When I run the sudo iptables script i get

                      Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)
     target prot opt source destination

                     Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT)
     target prot opt source destination

                      Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)
      target prot opt source destination

Which doesn't tell me much (why the same thing 3 times I don't know)

when I "dig www.xnet.co.nz "
I get the following

                ; <<>> DiG 9.7.0-P1 <<>> www.xnet.co.nz
                        ;; global options: +cmd

So I appear to be getting the same IP address as you do.

The error I get when trying to access xnet.co.nz in firefox is the
following

                       "" Unable to connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.xnet.co.nz.

    * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again
                           in a few moments.

       * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's
                          network connection.

    * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy,
make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web. ""

using Opera the error is

"" Could not connect to remote server

You tried to access the address http://www.xnet.co.nz/, which is currently unavailable. Please make sure that the web address (URL) is correctly spelled and punctuated, then try reloading the page.
Make sure your Internet connection is active and check whether other applications that rely on the same connection are working.
Check that the setup of any Internet security software is correct and does not interfere with ordinary web browsing.
If you are behind a firewall on a Local Area Network and think this may be causing problems, talk to your systems administrator.
Try pressing the F12 key on your keyboard and disabling proxy servers, unless you know that you are required to use a proxy to connect to the Internet. Reload the page.
Need help? ""

do you have any other ideas ?

cheers
Rod
