This post notifies us that the Call for Proposals (CFP) are now closed for
UbuCon Asia 2024, with thanks given to those who submitted proposals. Some

### `needrestart` changes in Ubuntu 24.04: service restarts ###

Simon Chopin reports there were "significant changes to the default
behavior of needrestart" in Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, thus he is providing details
in this post. Beyond telling us what this tool does, we're told of the new
behavior, and given some instructions on dealing with any troubles, or
reverting the behavior to that of earlier releases if required.

### Xubuntu 24.04: A minimal install that does what it says on the tin ###

Liam Proven reminds us that Xubuntu 24.04 LTS is out, and here talks mostly
about the minimal install option. Beyond just an install option on the main
ISO, Liam highlights the smaller ISO available (smallest of the flavors).
Some comparison with other flavor minimal installs is given, as well as
some general discussion on what Liam noticed in his testing the system.

### OpenZFS 2.2.4 Released With Linux 6.8 Support ###

Michael Larabel informs us that OpenZFS 2.2.4 has been released. We're told
it supports the 6.8 Linux kernel, and that it contains some FreeBSD
specific fixes. We're reminded Ubuntu 24.04 LTS includes an
encrypted/unencrypted ZFS root file-system support option (which is still
an experimental feature).

### Wine 9.8 Fixes Nearly 20 Year Old Bug For Installing Microsoft Office
97 ###

Michael Larabel informs on the updates, 22 bug fixes, and "various other
software issues now being resolved"within this development release.
