Although Nick Fox's Information is very complete, I would like to add that
Mythbuntu would NOT work for me until I created a Schedules Direct Account
and a SD "Lineup"!!!
NOTE: One can use Schedules Direct for long enough without subscribing to
see if Mythbuntu is working for you (7 Days for Free)!!!
Although I had played around with the Digital Tuner on my HVR-1600, I now
use the Analog Tuner exclusively. I have successfully used both Mythbuntu
9.10 and 10.04 with the HVR-1600, although found better "Luck" getting
Mythbuntu to recognise the HVR-1600 if I limited myself to the Analog
Tuner ONLY??? As Nick says the HVR-1600 will be an "IVTV MPEG-2 encoder
card", where you link "Tuner1" to appropriate Schedules Direct "Lineup".
I sometimes have to Power Down the Backend and restart Mythbuntu before
the Analog Tuner works "Correctly", so I watch a little bit of TV before
leaving the Backend running for up coming Programmed Recording!!!
Unfortunately all of Mythbuntu 10.04's Proprietary NVidia Drivers appear
to "Conflict" with the VHR-1600, so I am limited to the non-Proprietary
Drivers on the Backend??? Last I find viewing the MPEG2 Stream generated
by the HVR-1600's Hardware Encoder it is best to have the Display's
Resolution match the Standard Broadcast Signal, ie. 640x480...
